11 October – I began my work as the acting Parish Priest of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church Umumbo. Umumbo is in Ayamelum LGA, Anambra State.
Let me take you through my wonderful adventure;
I think here, we passed Anaku and were heading to Omor. I shouted because we hit a large pothole that my car had to drive over. I didn’t position the front tire properly, and the impact felt like it landed on my chest. Hahaha!
Still on our way from Anaku to Omor. I saw lands wasting. Such lands should be used for Palm farms etc.
Here, we have entered Omor.
Fr. Peter, Seminarian FaustinusMary, Chibuike and I, at Omor market buying what we would cook for lunch. The girl is from Omor. So, she was telling me that Omor is the only town around, others are villages. Could you believe that? I laughed.,
We bought tomatoes and vegetables for our stew. In my car were other ingredients that my brother’s wife, Egodi, helped me buy from Ose-Onitsha, and my mum packed other things in addition.
We passed Christ the King Catholic Church Omor, and are now on the road leading to Umumbo.
We finally arrived at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Umumbo. We had to wait for the gateman who is also the Catechist of the parish to come and open the gate to the church compound.
YES.....Fr. Henry! Welcome
I was taking a walk round the parish and its buildings. The building in the picture is the Church itself. The parish is the Church itself. The parish has also school (nursery to secondary) with about 685 students all together.
Front view of the Father’s house(Priest’s house).
The inside of the Church….very sizable and beautiful.
Some Primary Classes - A challenge
Some primary classes are staying together in a big hall. The big challenge is that the classroom floors are not yet tiled or dressed. So, when students are there, dust flies up and down, making it nasty for a proper educative-formation. WE NEED HELP!
Fr. Peter Ometa took time to take me round the classrooms and the church. He explained things to me and handed over certain necessary things. While the showings and handovers were going on, FaustinusMary(Seminarian) and chibuike were cooking rice and stew which we ate around 2pm.
In the evening, we had October devotion, beginning with Rosary by 6pm, then followed the Benediction. After the benediction, a few people who attended came to greet and welcome me. They were very happy to see me.
I enjoyed walking with you through this journey.
God will protect us.
Umumbo has really progressed and gone a long way thanks to your predecessors.
Long live the Catholic Church.
Amen. Thank you so much. May God be Praised
